Coaching, Therapy, and Mentoring…oh my! What do I do?

If you're feeling a little lost and need some clarity in your life and career, you're not alone.

It's okay to ask for help.
It's okay to seek resources.
It's okay to take the time to rest and recover.

When I was feeling this way, I wasn't sure who to turn to. Do I reach out to a trusted mentor who could help me figure out why work was draining my energy? Should I reconnect with my coach to figure out some strategies for moving forward? Do I find a therapist who could help me get to the root of some underlying issues that might be surfacing at this point in my life?

The answer: all of them.

They're all helpful when feeling like you need some clarity, feeling drained and unsure why, or knowing you need to make some changes in your life or career, but not sure how. There's some key differences in all of these supports when you're going through tough times and trying to navigate this thing called life.

Coaching is...

  • a partnership between the coach and the client

  • driven by the client's current situation and desire to change

  • not giving advice or answers, instead helping the client build their own internal resources to develop their own actions

  • individual growth in life, career, or business because the client is ready to grow

  • future-focused accountability, sometimes tied in with goals and plans

Therapyis...

  • guided by solutions from the therapist

  • individual healing and past-focused exploration

  • needed when clients are experiencing blocks towards forward-movement

Mentoring is...

  • with an expert in a specific field or industry

  • guiding or providing advice or strategies based on the mentor's individual experience

  • not expecting the client to come up with their own answers

  • present-oriented helping with career growth
